Effective Communication Strategies and Dementia
Communication is more than just talking and listening – it’s also about sending and
receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body
language. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in
their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to
connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has
Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by
someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and
communicate at each stage of the disease.

DivorceCare, a weekly support group will begin meeting this Thursday, from 6:30 – 8:30pm here at the church, Faith Community Church 401 Stone Street, Beaver Dam WI. It is designed so that people can begin attending on any week.
Topics include “Facing My Anger”, “Facing My Loneliness”, “New Relationships”, “KidCare”, and “Forgiveness”.
During the first 30–40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies and on-location video. After viewing the video, DivorceCare group participants spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members.

We have finally located a permanent meeting place for our support group at the HIGHER GROUNDS COFFEE SHOP, 7156 E Plaza Drive, Beaver Dam WI. We will be meeting on the SECOND & FOURTH TUESDAYS of each month.
TLC is a group of people who have had a diagnosis of cancer or who have a family member or friend who has had a diagnosis of cancer. We share together the often difficult process of coping with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Our basic purpose is to support each other spiritually and emotionally so that we can live each day to its fullest.
TLC is not a medical clinic, a hospice program, or a group of experts who offer advice on the treatment of cancer. We are a group of people who are eager to listen, to share our own struggles and joys and to pray for each other. This is a community based group.
The topics we use for the group are in three categories:
- Living with Strong Feelings
- Challenges to Faith
- Changing Perspectives
The purpose of TLC is to provide emotional and spiritual support to families living with cancer. OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Each Tuesday a dedicated group meets to pray for the needs of our church family and our community. Using Acts 1:4 as his basis, Armin Gesswein often called the central all-church prayer meeting “Christ’s last command; our first responsibility.” If you have never joined our group…why don’t you drop in and see what it’s all about!!! We meet at a NEW TIME of 7 PM.
